Avar belt decoration


This Avar (7-8th c.) belt decoration was found in a cemetery at Dunaszentgyörgy-Tengelic, Hungary. Avars decorated their strap belts elaborately, belts and the number and type of decoration on them represeneted social status. This object decorated the end of such strap belt (that part which is pulled through the buckle). Raw material: bronze
